Penn State hasn’t churned out verbal commitments at the same rate in the 2016 recruiting cycle as it did in 2015, but James Franklin and staff are making headway with a number of blue-chip prospects. Visit weekends yielded valuable trips to campus for the likes of offensive tackles Michal Menet and Jauan Williams, defensive back Damar Hamlin and linebacker Brendan Ferns, all good signs despite them leaving without commitments.

Another big weekend lies ahead when the Nittany Lions play their Blue-White spring scrimmage April 18. The game is an opportunity to showcase a gameday atmosphere at Beaver Stadium while again spending time with some of the region’s best players. Whether that yields new commitments remains to be seen. PennLive recruiting reporter Greg Pickel joined Dustin Hockensmith and Bob Flounders on the Keystone Sports Network this week to break down the visits and where Penn State stands with its top targets.
