Penn State coach James Franklin is speaking this spring with exponentially more optimism than he did at the same last season, and why not? His team is deeper and more experienced, with bona-fide strengths on both sides of the ball. Franklin spoke this week about his talented secondary and the head-turning play of backup quarterback Trace McSorley in his last public comments before Saturday’s Blue-White scrimmage.

The Nittany Lions also got a small jolt of optimism when prized offensive tackle recruit Michal Menet narrowed his college choice down to Penn State and Duke. Franklin has to like his chances after hosting Menet often over the last year and with a rising program that could afford Menet plenty of chances to compete for early playing time.

Bob Flounders, Andrew P. Shay and Dustin Hockensmith talked about those items and more in a segment for the Keystone Kickoff Show on the Keystone Sports Network this week.
