Penn State had a quartet of 2016 recruits in Beaverton, Ore., this week competing at The Opening, one of the nation’s most prestigious talent showcases. The group had plenty of positive moments, including notable performances at the event’s SPARQ combine testing. Miles Sanders turned in the best performance of the group, finishing 23rd in the field with a well-rounded effort.

Shane Simmons checked in with the fastest 20-yard shuttle time (4.01) among all defensive linemen at the event. Lavert Hill weighed in at 5-10 and 170 pounds and showed quality speed and power to go with his “sticky” one-on-one coverage skills. Jake Zembiec finished No. 5 among quarterbacks with a final score of 93.57, highlighted by a 34.8-inch vertical jump.

Also making news for the Nittany Lions this week were six players who landed on various preseason watch lists. Bob Flounders, Ross Tucker and Dustin Hockensmith talked about the latest recruiting information and broke down the early watch lists in a segment for the Keystone Kickoff Show.
